Description
Lagoons and Volcanoes, is the combination of two activities (hiking trail and tour focused on vulcanology), being a full day tour (8 hours), with lunch included. In the morning period, we start with a hike through the trail of Mistérios Negros – a walk in a trail of 5 km which stands out for its stunning natural beauty, both from the lagoons and forests of japanese cryptomeria (a type of cedar) and endemic vegetation (erica azorica), and volcanic landscape. The hiking trail has a medium level of difficulty, there exists some elevation of aprox.100 meters, through somewhat irregular terrain. Afterwards you’ll have lunch (with drinks included) in a local restaurant. In the afternoon period, start of van tour through the craters, volcanoes and natural monuments of Terceira Island. Visit the interior of an empty volcano (Algar do Carvão), walk through the fumarolic field of Furnas do Enxofre, explore the interior of the circular lava tube of Gruta do Natal, and have a walk through the natural pools of Biscoitos.

ALGAR DO CARVÃO AND ITS VISITORS CENTRE ARE CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, SINCE OCTOBER 20th.
The construction OF “CAVE – AZOREAN VOLCANO SPELEOLOGICAL CENTER” OF ALGAR DO CARVÃO will take approximately 18 months.
Includes:
- Meeting point in the accomodation site;
- Accompaniment of local guide/driver;
- Entrance tickets to Algar do Carvão and Gruta do Natal;
- Lunch with drinks and dessert included.
Excludes:
- Hiking trail equipment;
- Other activities and stops at sites not mentioned in the programme.
